Expansion is dedicated to the adoption and integration of esports and gaming into main stream New Zealand, and encourage the growth with a positivity in mind.
We do this through providing esports solutions and consultations, running events from minors to majors, providing a proving ground for players wanting to take their game to the next level and supporting those players to make a career in this space.
By hosting tournaments and events for all levels and genres, supporting up and coming players and helping communities excel, we encourage the growth of gaming and esports in NZ at a true grassroots level and carry through all the positives it provides. This allows us to focus on areas and groups of players not in the direct light of esports, but giving them a push in the right direction to follow their dreams.
We create the bridge between esports and gaming.
Expansion NZ is proud to be fully owned and operated to support New Zealanders by New Zealanders.

Murphy is Expansion NZ’s top Smash Bros player. Getting not only top placings in NZ tournaments, but winning a majority of all of what he entered. Currently the top ranked player in both Wellington and the whole of New Zealand for two years straight. Here is Murphy’s short take on how he go into Smash:
I’ve been playing games since I was five years old when my Dad got me a Playstation for my fifth birthday.
From there I got into Smash as a kid when I was around eight or ten, can’t remember exactly. Never played it competitively but played it a lot casually.
Played Melee on the Gamecube, Brawl on the Wm and when Smash 4 the ads came out I was a bit older and had learned about the competitive scene.
In early 2015 I heard about tournaments in Petone so I started going to those and fell in love with competing. These guys were so much better than I could imagine and all I wanted to do was beat them.My original goal was best in New Zealand but since I’ve achieved that I now want to do well internationally.
Dio is Expansion NZ’s main fighting game player. Having played multiple Street Fighter titles in his time, he is no stranger to the fighting game genre.
He was well known as one of the top street fighter 4 players online, but due to his age and location he did not have the opportunity to travel to any tournaments.
He still retains the skills he learnt and has transferred them to Street Fighter 5. With his quick paced decision making and unbelievable hit confirms, he is aiming to take the crown as the best NZ SFV player.
Isaac is Expansion NZ’s latest addition as a fighting game player. He comes from a strong background of Street Fighter X Tekken winning multiple tournaments and being undisputedly the best at the game during its life time.
This gives him a strong hand in tag style fighting games such as Marvel vs Capcom Infinite and Dragon Ball FighterZ. This doesn’t mean hes a slouch in games without a tag system, he plays at a top level in Street Fighter and enjoys the odd shooter in his down time.
“I’ve been playing video games pretty much my whole life. When Street fighter X Tekken was released, I thought I’d give it a try.
Once I found out there was a competitive local scene for the game, and a community focused solely on fighting games, I was hooked. During its time, I reigned undefeated in Street Fighter X Tekken including back to back National titles.
Currently my main games are Street Fighter V and Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite.”
Marcos is one of Expansion NZs Fighting Game Community Ambassadors while also playing at a competitive level in all games he plays.
Having traveled to New Zealand to live, he has brought with him his love for fighting games from Brazil and supporting his local community.
Being based in Christchurch, he is one of the big contenders for the top spots in multiple fighting games but also hopes to help coach and train others to be at his level. After all who doesn’t like a challenge and seeing others around you improve.
Hi my name is Marcos Lopez also know as MarcosGlub born and raised in Brazil, since I was young I got fascinated with games.
I remember the first time I played fighting game was at some bakery near to my house. Was Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and I love it. Since I have been playing fighting games and a little of fps games. Has been 5 years living in New Zealand, I came to try to have a “better” life like they said in Brazil.
I am full time Industrial and Marine Painter, its a hard job but in the end of the day, always pay off. For my lucky I found NZFGC and this make my life better.
Ajay is one of Expansion NZs Fighting Game Community Ambassadors while also playing at a competitive level in all games he plays.
He wants to help push the New Zealand gaming scene just as much as ENZ so it was simple to bring him on board along with his ability to quickly pick up any game he plays and some how chooses the cheapest characters!
Ajay wants to support the scene by creating events and allowing the younger generation enjoy the games just as much as he has, which he has shown by providing costs towards sending players to tournaments! Here is his own low down on gaming and where he is at currently.
I’ve been playing games since the original NES that my uncle got me which was when I was around 4 years old jamming Super Mario Brothers.Since then I have probably owned every console but what got me into fighting games was a friend at work telling me to get SFV but also saying there is no chance id ever beat him. So naturally I got SFV and he bodied me for the first couple of months, but then I finally beat him and decided it was time to move on to bigger competition.
He showed me the local wellington scene and from there I went to my first major CCC 2017 and came 13th with Birdie.
1 year later at CCC 2018 I got my best performance yet coming 9th in SFV with Falke and 3rd in DBFZ with Kid Buu A Gohan and Yamcha. This year the plan is to win my first major and pick up as many other FG’s as I can.
Jackson is the founder of Expansion NZs, starting from seeing a gap in the market in early 2017. His passion is on promoting gaming as a positive avenue for anyone to use as well as nurturing its growth throughout the country in all its forms be it esports or casual gaming.
Having lived all through the country, he has a strong passion for involving the whole of New Zealand and integrating esports and gaming into the whole countries vocabulary, and riding any negativity or stigma behind it.
Gaming for a long time has been seen as a waste of time or something that won’t lead the people interested anywhere, and i want to change that view and prove that it has great qualities and it can providing many aspects to ones life. It can be a coping mechanism, a place where someone find peace and happiness, a way to meet others, learning social or soft skills and many more!
Together, Expansion and gamers and rid the negative stigma and show how it can play a part hand in hand with life. There are issues that people face through gaming and there is a reason for negativity towards it, but with the focus on health and happiness i believe gaming can become widely accepted.
