SOUTHERN CROSSUP 2018
Over the weekend, the FGC part of Expansion NZ attended Southern Crossup 2018 in Auckland New Zealand.
It was a weekend filled with exciting games and upsets everywhere. With the guys at Standing Fierce and Omen putting on a great event as always, it was no surprise that everyone enjoyed it.
With hard fought battles comes losses and reality checks for all players, including ours. Murphy “ORG Red” was dropped down into the Super Smash Bros. 4 bracket in a mirror match against another Fox player. Though this was nothing new to Murphy, he has been through many loser brackets before.
He is the two time National SSB4 champion gunning forr the top and made an amazing speedy run through the bracket all the way to losers finals.
Keeping up the speedy pace he 3-0d Ichigo to reset the bracket into grand finals. After such an amazing run he unforunately couldn’t pull through with the win, ending in a 3-1 win to Ichigo and Murphy taking second place.
On the other side of the spectrum, we had Dio “2Rare2Live2Rare2Die” playing it out in Street Fighter V.
Playing out of his mind on the Saturday running through all opponents with dominance, it was looking like he was ready to take the tournament.
He was put up against Burnoutfighter in his second match of the day, one of the strong Australian invaders. He had recently attended our event Crush Counter Capital 2018 in June and ended up winning Street Fighter V so it was going to be a hard match. Dio played extremely well and patient against Burnouts Sim, and ended up winning the set 2-0 which was a great boost of confidence to Dio.
Come finals day Dio was upon stage and streaming playing with the whole audience behind him. Losing to DS Falco and Ghostchips, he ended up placing 5th in such a stacked tournament with multiple Australians.
The boys had a great weekend and made us proud, even if they didn’t reach the heights they wanted to.
We know this will keep the fire burning and allow them to push their potential even further.
